Tips to Learn to Dog Paddle

Swimming is fun for most people. However, some people do fear water. The dog paddle stroke is a good stroke for those people to learn. Dog paddling is not fast, but it can get you around the swimming pool. When you do this stroke, there is no need to put your head or face in the water.

Get into the water. Make sure the water is deep enough for swimming.

Start by placing your hands in front of your chest. Cup your hands, and make circles with both hands. Make sure your whole arm is involved in making the circle.

Put your whole body into the water except your head. Keep your head up straight with your chin jutted out, and tilt your head slightly upward.

Kick your legs underneath your body. Your body is now submerged in the water except for your head, which is completely out of the water.

Move along faster by placing your hands a little bit farther out in front of you. The dog paddle stroke is not intended for speed, so don't expect to move very fast doing this stroke.

Teach your children to dog paddle as well. This is an especially good stroke for young children to learn; they do not have to put their face in the water to do it.

Enjoy the dog paddle with your dog. After all, your pup doesn't need to learn it since it knows this stroke by instinct. Enjoy it with your whole family.
