Average Length of Basketball Court

This article highlights the length and width of a basketball court, as well as gives distances for other relevant points on the basketball court.

Length of Basketball Court
The length of the regulation NBA basketball court is 94 feet long. Many high school and college courts are only 84 feet (there is a shorter distance between the three-point line and the half court line).

Width of Basketball Court
The width of a basketball court should be 50 feet.

Distance Between Baseline and Free Throw Line
The distance between the baseline and the free throw line is 15 feet.

Size of the Key
The key is the painted area between the baseline and the free throw line. This area should be 19 feet long (19 feet from the baseline to the free throw line) and 12 feet wide (6 feet in each direction from beneath the basketball hoop). The blocks are located 7 feet from the baseline on the sides of the key, and they are 12 inches wide and 8 inches deep. Three feet above the block there is another line that is 2 inches wide and 8 inches deep. Then, again, another three feet above this line there is another line the same size, and then there is one more above this one (so three hash marks each three feet apart). These lines are located on both sides of the key and are used for separating players while a free throw is being shot.

The Top of the Key
Above the free throw line is a half circle that protrudes off the key. This half circle has a radius of 6 feet and connects from one side of the key to the other. This also serves to mark the top of the three-point line for high school players.
