Build Flat Bar Rail for Skateboard

Making your own skateboarding flat bar rail is a simple and affordable project. A rail 6 feet long and 10 inches high is perfect for beginner and intermediate skateboarding lovers. If you would like a longer or higher rail, simply increase the dimensions of the skateboarding board.

Cut the wood down to size. Grab your 4- by 4-inch by 8-foot piece of wood and measure two 8 1/2-inch pieces and two 7-inch pieces, making a line on the wood at the end of each measurement. Take your 2- by 4-inch by 8-foot piece of wood and measure out two, 1-foot long pieces and one 6-foot long piece, making a line at the end of each measurement. Measure the lengths once more to make sure that the lines you marked are correct. Take your circular saw or jig saw and cut along the lines that you made.

Assemble the legs using the 7-inch long 4- by 4-inch baord and the foot long two- by 4-inch board. Stand the 4- by 4-inch board up on its end and place the 2- by 4-inch board flat on top with the 4- by 4-inch board centered in the middle. Screw four 2 1/2-inch screws into the middle of the 2- by 4-inch board arranged in a square. These blocks of wood are now connected. Flip the legs right side up so that the 2- by 4-inch board is now on the ground. Screw in a 4-inch angle bracket on each side of the leg using the 1 5/8-inch screws. This helps to stabilize the rail. Make two of these legs.

Attach the legs to the 6-foot long 2- by 4-inch board. Screw in the legs that you just assembled on each end of the 6-foot long 2- by 4-inch board with four 2 1/2-inch screws. Take the two remaining 7-inch long 4- by 4-inch boards and screw them on the rail the same way, making sure all the legs are spaced two feet apart.

Apply wood adhesive to the top of the 6-foot long 2- by 4-inch skateboard and adhere the properly cut size sheet iron.

Place clamps on the iron to make sure that the iron stays straight and the adhesive sets properly skateboarding board.
