How to Make Motorized Skateboards

Sometimes, push power just isn't enough when it comes to skateboarding. Maybe you'd like to travel longer distances on your skateboard. Or maybe you just want to get where you're going faster. Either way, adding a motor to your skateboard is the key to achieving your goal.

Read the directions of your skateboard motor kit thoroughly. This will help you determine the proper placement for the motor on your skateboard. Most likely, it will need to be placed on or near the screws of your rear truck.

Remove the back truck and wheels from your board. Then, place the engine in the position suggested by the instructions. Use a ruler to achieve maximum placement.

Mark the drill points with a pencil where the engine bolts will go. Take great care in marking each point, as you want the engine to screw in easily.

Bore out the bolt holes with the drill. Then, use the nuts and bolts included in the motor kit to attach to the engine to the skateboard. Use a wrench to tighten the bolts as much as possible.

Mount the new back wheels onto the board. Attach the belt to the engine, and then loop the other end around the rear wheels. You may need to keep the wheel nuts loose to make this task easier.

Tighten all bolts on the mechanism to secure everything in place. If the belt is a bit loose, you may need to add spacers to tighten it up a bit.

Connect the accelerator knob to the engine by attaching the accelerator wire. As different kits require different connection points, you might need to read the kit instructions to fully understand how to do this.

Test your motorized skateboard by initiating the engine. When you push on the accelerator knob, the skateboard should move forward.
