Skateboarders use deck rails to protect the sides of the deck from the damage that performing sliding tricks can cause. Sliding is when you ollie up onto an object like a rail or an edge and slide across using the surface of your deck. If you do a lot of sliding, your deck can wear out quickly. Installing rails is a good way to prevent this. Rails are a lightweight, durable material that go onto the side of your deck to reduce deck wear. Rails also protect your deck against breaking. However, if you slam your deck hard enough, not even rails will prevent it from breaking.
Apply Your Rails
Using rails is as easy as attaching them to your deck and skating as you normally would. Installing deck rails is simple, just push each rail onto the side of your deck and then press down along the length of the top and bottom of the rail to get a snug fit. Alternately, some rails bolt on and come with the necessary mounting hardware. This keeps the rail from coming off, but it also puts permanent holes in your deck. Once the sides of your deck are protected you can start doing your sliding tricks without worrying about too much deck damage. When you want to remove your deck rails simply grab them firmly and pull them off.
