Fun Casinos Near New York City

Even though there are no casinos in the Big Apple, New Yorkers need not travel far to find world-class gambling facilities. Atlantic City sits on the east coast of New Jersey, south of New York City, and offers a number of grand gaming resorts. On the other side of Long Island Sound, southeast Connecticut boasts two world-class casinos that can easily be reached by bus, train or car.

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa
The Borgata opened to much fanfare in 2003, and the hoopla has not stopped. The 2,000-room hotel still fills to capacity most nights, and the restaurants and clubs have become favorites with locals and visitors alike. The Borgata casino boasts 161,000 square feet of gaming space, including over 4,000 slot machines. The biggest poker room in Atlantic City calls the Borgata home.

Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City
The gaming area at Harrah’s takes up 160,000 square feet and offers more than 3,800 slot machines. Table games at Harrah’s include poker, craps, blackjack, roulette and mini-baccarat. Harrah’s Resort boasts more than 1,100 guest rooms, world-class service and is a satellite location for the 2010 World Series of Poker.

Caesars Atlantic City

Sister casino to Harrah’s, Caesars Atlantic City boasts 145,000 square feet of gambling space as well as convenience to the famous Atlantic City Boardwalk and beach. With 135 table games and over 3,000 slot machines, the casino at Caesars bustles night and day. Foxwoods Resort Casino
Foxwoods began as the “original high stakes bingo hall” back in 1986 and evolved to include the MGM Grand hotel and the “world’s largest bingo hall.” The property’s six casinos offer 7,600 slot machines and more than 380 gaming tables. Located in southeastern Connecticut, Foxwoods is a prime destination for bus tours.

Mohegan Sun
The Mohegan Sun features three distinct casinos, representing wind, sky and earth. The total gaming space at Mohegan Sun is just under 345,000 square feet, making it one of the largest casinos in the world. The Mohegan Sun complex boasts more than 6,500 slot machines and nearly 400 gaming tables, including a state-of-the-art poker room in the Casino of the Wind. The Mohegan Sun casinos also feature awe-inspiring design, such as a 55-foot indoor waterfall and electronic water wall.
