Tips to Play UNO Cards Game

UNO is a card game manufactured by Mattel that comes in a deck of 108 blue, green, red and yellow cards numbered from zero to nine as well as special cards. The object of the game is to get rid of all of the cards in your hand and to say “UNO” when you have only one card left. Using special cards in the game can help players to advance and win. The game can be played with two to 10 players.

Step 1
Draw one card from the deck. The player who draws the card with the highest point value becomes the dealer. Deal seven cards to each player and lay the remaining cards face down. This deck will be the Draw pile.

Step 2
Turn over the top card the card from the Draw pile to create the Discard pile. The person to the left of the dealer plays first.

Step 3
Lay down one card that matches the number or the color of the card on top of the Discard pile. Place the matching card on top of the Discard pile. The order of play then continues counterclockwise, unless a player uses a Reverse card.

Step 4
Pick up a new card from the Draw pile if you cannot lay down any of your cards; then it will be the next player's turn. Continue taking turns trying to get rid of your cards. To lay down a special card it must match the same color shown on top of the Discard pile, unless it is a Wild or Wild Draw Four card.

Step 5
Lay down a Draw Two card to make the next player draw two new cards from the Draw pile. If this is the first card in the Discard pile at the beginning of the game, then the first player must draw two cards.

Step 6
Lay down a Wild card on the Discard pile to choose any color to be played. The next player must lay down a card with the color you choose. If this card is laid down in the Discard pile at the beginning of the game, the player to the left of the dealer gets to decide the initial color.

Step 7
Lay down a Wild Draw Four card to choose any color to continue the Discard pile, and also to make the next player draw four cards from the Draw pile. You may only play this card if you do not have another card in your hand that matches the current Discard pile color. Return this card to the Draw pile if it is laid down as the first card on the Discard pile.

Step 8
Lay down a Reverse card to change the direction of play. For example, the previous player to your right would be next to make a move, instead of the player to the left, when you lay down a Reverse card. Play in a clockwise order if a Reverse card is the first card laid down.

Step 9
Lay down a Skip card to make the player after you lose a turn and be skipped in the order of moves. The first player is skipped if the Skip card is the first card laid down at the beginning of the game.

Step 10
Call out “UNO” when you have only one card left. If another player catches you not saying “UNO” at this time, you must draw two cards. The first player to get rid of all of his cards wins the hand.

Step 11
Score the cards of your opponents when you win by counting the numbered cards at their face value. Count Draw, Reverse and Skip cards as 20 points each, and count Wild and Wild Draw Four cards as 50 points. The winner of the hand receives the points of the leftover cards and the first player to score 500 points wins the game.
