Tips to Seal & Paste Puzzle

Jigsaw puzzles come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They range from simple, with under one hundred pieces, to extremely complicated 3-D versions that have thousands of pieces. Some jigsaw puzzles have a metallic or glow-in-the-dark finish to enhance the puzzle's image. Because jigsaw puzzles are inexpensive and come in an endless number of themes, they can be used in ways other than just for entertainment. Once a puzzle has been completed, it can be sealed and turned into a unique, personal and beautiful work of art.

Step 1
Slide the finished puzzle very carefully onto a piece of cardboard that measures about 2 inches (on all sides) larger than the finished puzzle. This will give you a steady work surface and will prevent the puzzle paste from transferring onto your table top.

Step 2
Wipe the finished puzzle with a rag to remove any dirt or debris that may be on the surface.

Step 3
Apply a thin layer of puzzle paste to the puzzle. Puzzle paste comes in a jar similar to rubber cement. The application brush is attached to the lid of the paste. Be sure not to apply too much paste at the edges of the puzzle. This will cause the puzzle to stick to the cardboard.

Step 4
Allow the coat of puzzle paste to dry for at least one hour. Apply a second coat if desired, then let dry for an additional hour.

Step 5
Frame the sealed puzzle for display.
