So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, IN the futility of their THINKING. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God... because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Ephesians 4:17-18
Take therefore NO THOUGHT for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Mathew 6:34
"Therefore I tell you, DO NOT WORRY about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?" Mathew 6:25
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every THOUGHT to make it obedient to Christ. II Corinthians 10:5
All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point YOU THINK... differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Philippians 3:15-16
What is the common denominator of all of these passages?
Notice Paul DOES NOT say "the futility IN their thinking", as though they are thinking IN a wrong away or about the wrong things. He does say the futility OF their thinking.
Both Paul and Jesus are saying the same basic thing.
As mature believers we are to move on from a FALSE Christianity, the Christianity where we continue to try and "think" our way through our life, to the only brand of REAL CHRISTIANITY there is, which is seeing Christ alone as the ONE who is living, moving, and flowing IN and through us.
There is One Body and One Spirit, just as you were called to One Hope when you were called; One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism; One God and Father of ALL, who is over ALL and through ALL and IN ALL.. Ephesians 4:4
There is also only One Head, and guess what? It is not what we have been duped into believing. It is NOT the pastor, teacher, prophet, apostle, or evangelist. In fact, IN the heart of God, none of these positions or offices even exist! These "callings" were never meant to be elite positions or offices held in an institutional setting. They are "heart callings" of God, and for only one reason, the equipping of the body so it can to come into full maturity.
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become IN EVERY RESPECT THE MATURE BODY OF "HIM WHO IS THE HEAD", THAT IS... CHRIST. FROM HIM... the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part (of the body) does its work. Ephesians 4:14-16
