As we sit down on our own seats to watch television at night, we come across a plethora of TV characters with special attachments to favorite recliners, sofas, and chairs. These seats become a part of the characters in many ways and sometimes it's hard to think about one without the other. The following are 5 of the most famous seats in television history and the characters that made them famous.
1. (and 2.) Friends brought us some of the most beloved characters, and along with them came their favorite seats. Chandler and Joey were almost always found in the two leather recliners in their apartment. In the second season, Joey bought them as a surprise for his roommate after he won the part of Dr. Drake Ramoray on Days of Our Lives. The two were immediately hooked and didn't even leave to open the door for delivery. They had their food delivered to their friends, Monica and Rachel, across the hall so one of them would bring over. A new recliner will make you do strange things.
3. Frasier was broadcast for 11 years and throughout its run, Frasier's father had a vintage recliner that grates Frasier because of its unsightly upholstery. Since the two live together, it was always a point of contention between them. It most likely was displeasing to the eye when it was brand new, but the years have not been kind to it. However, the faded colors and extended use are no obstacles for Martin and he was always spouting wisdom from his cherished recliner.
4. The Simpsons is known for its opening sequence, which showcases the family's orange couch in the notorious couch gags. The family is always sitting in weird ways or something strange happens to them after they sit down. Originally designed as time filler, the couch gags have now become one of the most creative parts of the show. They have even had famous artists make couch gags for special episodes. For example, Guillermo Del Torro created an intro paying homage to scary movies such as The Birds and The Shining for one of the Treehouse of Horror episodes.
5. Seinfeld was a "show about nothing," but in actuality, it was about so much. One of the most popular novelty items from the show is a poster of George Costanza in a provocative pose on a chaise lounge. George poses for these pictures in order to catch the attention of the cute girl at the photo store. Since that episode aired in 1996, fans have made the picture even more prominent, as it is now available to buy online.
