Lamella Clarifiers Are A Reliable Alternative To Traditional Clarifiers

Industrial sites have a variety of unique needs. Most of the equipment used on site is highly specialized to meet those requirements. In addition to backhoes and forklifts, many worksites will require equipment designed to remove solids from waste and process liquids. One such piece of equipment is the lamella clarifier.

The lamella clarifier is used in a variety of settings, including mining operations, metal finishing, groundwater treatment, and industrial process water. The purpose of the machine is to remove particulates from liquids. They work by using a series of inclined plates on which the solid particles can settle. Effluent is channeled into the filter to flow into the inlet chamber in the center of the unit. From that point, the effluent enters the plates through openings in the sides. The solids will settle in the inclined plates, and slide into a hopper at the bottom of the machine. The liquid is then discharged from the unit. The machines work best when solids sizing is fine, and solids loading is variable.

There are a number of advantages to choosing a lamella clarifier over a conventional clarifier. Conventional models involve the use of settling tanks to remove solid particulates from the liquid. The tanks require much more space. The inclined plates take up much less space, and as a result, the units only need an average of 65 to 80 percent of the area the tanks require. Therefore, the industrial site can operate multiple units simultaneously. As a result of the continuous operation, common problems like algae growth, clogging and foul odors can be avoided. Additionally, the equipment can operate effectively without the use of chemicals. A typical model can remove 90 to 99 percent of free oils and greases under standard operating conditions.

Lamella clarifiers are also more reliable than conventional models because they lack mechanical, moving parts. Accordingly, they are less likely to fail, and require virtually no energy input. The absence of moving parts also reduces the likelihood of injuries. The steel construction means that the unit itself is unlikely to contaminate the water because pieces of the plate will not chip off. Finally, the systems are very inexpensive to operate and require very little maintenance; an annual cleaning will suffice.

Your business' equipment can be engineered to your specifications. The units can be used in any industry in which sedimentable particles need to be separated from fluids. They are commonly used in the gravel and sand industry, recycling, cooling water, street cleaning, and heavy metal precipitation. The manufacturer will take your applications into consideration when designing a piece of equipment that meets your needs. One way in which your machine can be customized is by altering plate spacing. This allows for different solid loading ratios and settling rates. Additionally, you should look for a product that is sandblasted and treated with epoxy to resist chemical damage.
