In the human world the lack of availability of commodity wherever it is needed is very common. In other words anything that is needed, is never available automatically.
The most common requirement for a man is water. However, water as a commodity is rarely available directly without any processing. Modern day drinking water is made available after a lot of rigorous cleaning process. And after, that it is stored. Where? The purified water is stored in large tanks.
That brings us to the topic. What's a tank?
Even though the top introduction was regarding drinking water, it was just meant for simple explanation. In reality tanks are used for all sorts of liquids & gasses too. In some cases tanks are used to store granular material, but they are called silos & for the time being let's not dwell on those.
In simple terms a tank is a very large often cylindrical & vertical piece of construction. It may be built with concrete or steel, but it has to be perfectly sealed sometimes using a tank liners. A tank meant for storing water, has to be, ironically, water-tight. That means, the water can only come in & go through the designated inlets & outlets respectively. If that is not happening then one has to employ some protective coverings.
These covering are often made of high quality durable plastic. Tank liners are highly customized pieces of long continuous fabric which form a membrane between the tank construction material & its contents.
Returning back to the topic, tanks may be above the ground or below it. In case the liquid needs to flow with a pressure for example water which comes in our homes has to have certain amount of pressure. This can be achieved only if the water in a tank with a tank liner is at a height. In case the outlet is above the water storage, water just won't flow naturally. However, many a times that's the case & pumps are used, but that's beside the point. Hence, a tank has to be above the height of the outlet. Here the water tank is above the ground.
On the other hand, the waste water that is let out of the house is always at a lower location than the outlet in order to collect the water in a tank. Many a times even such tanks are lined with a Tank liner to prevent damage to them owing to the uncertainty of the quality of the water flowing into them.
Tanks are also routinely used for other purposes. But more on that will be discussed along with it, the versatility of the tank liners will be examined in the forthcoming articles.
