Need to Stand Out More While We Brainstorm

When you are part of a team brainstorming on a topic it is natural to want to be that person who came up with the groundbreaking idea, the one that really made a difference. We may want this attention but we need to keep in mind that it is not about being the one who gets the most attention that matters, it is being the one that helped to enhance the session for everyone that will be most remembered. If you are confidence, think outside the box, say what you believe instead of what you think they want to hear, be open to feedback and not let your ego get in the way you will stand out during brainstorming.

Be confident

This is the single most important thing to keep in mind during brainstorming. Sometimes it is not about how brilliant the idea but about how confident the person presenting it is. If you are confident in what you are saying, even if no one agrees with it, you are going to stand out a lot more than if you say a brilliant idea in a less than confident manner.

Think outside the box

Another great way to stand out is to bring in the idea that is so far out there that some people have trouble even seeing the connection. This will show that you are creative and it will show that you can make connection very few others can. Even if your idea is vaguely connected to the topic of the brainstorm as long as you discuss it with confidence people will think it makes more sense then it may.

Say what you believe, not what you think they want to her

This is the one that people are most hesitant to do but is the one of the best ways to stand out, especially with the people ion charge. Too often during brainstorming people share exactly what they think their supervisors want to hear. This is a mistake because if they wanted to hear what people think they want to hear, they would not do brainstorming. They want to hear new and fresh ideas, and if you have the courage to be that one who shares what you believe then you will stand out.

Be open to feedback

Another way to stand out during brainstorming is to be willing to take feedback on your ideas during the session. You will have a ton of ideas you share, and people in the room may dislike it just because you are getting attention and be critical of you. This is ok, do not take it personally. The other amazing side of things is even better. Sometimes people actually like your idea and want to expand on it and if you are open to receiving feedback on your ideas you can actually help make the experience even better.
