Workplace Efficiency

"Whenever there is a hard job to be done I assign it to a lazy man; he is sure to find an easy way of doing it. (Walter Chrysler)

The same old routine everyday; get up out of bed, walk down the hall, splash water on your face, turn on the coffee pot, and head for the shower. The same old routine; drive to work, punch the clock, count the seconds till break time, wish you could just tell the boss to shut it, and punch the clock to head home. Guess what? You get to do it all over again tomorrow.

This is the same old routine companies don't see, that routine that makes coming to work and doing the same thing day in and day out unbearable. We as "Corporate America" need to take in the fact these people do this so that we can make money, so that we can survive. I know the old sayings that you have to work hard for what you want. I say, "Work smart for what you want", not hard that will only put you six feet under sooner.

If you want some keys to making this mundane routine a little brighter for the people who put money in your pocket, listen up! We work hard every day for that crazy fantasy of the "American Dream", well in all reality we will never get there. Why? We don't have enough money to get there. If your workplace is inefficient and things are late to customers or poorly built you will never make money.

Here are a couple keys;

1. Identify why? Map out the work place and look for unnecessary steps.
2. Limit the interruptions of breaking off task to do another.
3. Happy environment is always a more efficient one.
4. Work as a team and communicate as a team.
5. Get a cup of coffee once in a while.
6. When do you employees work the hardest? The first is always key when you are looking for the money and efficiency you think your company should get.

Identify why? This is major to the success of a company or companies. Never do the same things twice or never try to. When you map out the workplace you are setting up a road map to help you determine what is necessary and unnecessary in your processes. This in return gives you a greater advantage of being efficient. While mapping out your workplace also look at the employees you have in those positions and see if they would be better suited somewhere else to maximize their productivity. If you have all you chess pieces lined up right no one can beat you. The second is always a hard one for me as an employee. Limit the interruptions of starting something and then getting pulled away to do something else. This is always a difficult place we find ourselves in when you are in a small business setting. We always have that one guy that can do it all but on the same hand he is always the guy that looks like he was hit by a bus every morning from stress. I have read numerous articles of people whining and complaining they can't every get done with one thing. Stop whining! The reason nothing gets done is because you or someone else is always starting something new and never staying on task. This happens every day in the workplace, some big wig comes out and says this is on rush or this is hot.
