How to Lose Your Fake Friends

At some point in your life, you may have a friendship with someone that turns unhealthy because she is fake, or toxic. A fake, toxic friendship is unnecessarily stressful; your friend may say negative things behind your back or become competitive under every circumstance. When you realize you have a toxic friend, take control of the situation and remove her from your life. Real friends are the only people worth your time and energy.

Start saying "no" to your fake and toxic friend. By rejecting her demands you are no longer enabling her to use you for her personal gain. In addition, when she realizes you are no longer at her disposal she will either decide to treat you better or she will stop coming around.

Stop answering her calls, emails or text messages. The less time you spend with your fake and toxic friend, the more she will begin to understand that you no longer want a relationship with her. Eventually, she will stop contacting you all together.

End your friendship completely and abruptly by telling your fake friend that you no longer want to continue your association with her. This method is harsh and often difficult, but it is faster.

Communicate with your friend. If you don't want to lose the friendship completely, but would like your friend to stop being fake and toxic, speak to her about it. Tell her your friendship cannot continue until she changes. Ask her if she is willing to work on her issues to save the friendship. If she declines, simply walk away.
