Keep Baby Wipes From Molding

Homemade baby wipes are a frugal alternative to using the store-bought variety but they come with a few disadvantages. One disadvantage is the tendency for mold to gather in the moist environment of the wipes container. While there is no fool-proof way of preventing mold in all situations, there are a few things you can do to help prevent mold growth on your homemade baby wipes.

Things Required
Wipes container
Soapy water
Clean, dry cloth
1 roll paper towels cut in half
1/8 cup vegetable oil
1/8 cup scented baby shampoo
1 1/2 to 2 cups hot water
5 drops tea tree oil

Clean the wipes container thoroughly with soapy water to remove residual bacteria or mold. Wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Place one half of a roll of paper towels in the clean wipes container.

Mix together the vegetable oil, scented shampoo, water and tea tree oil until well combined. The scented shampoo and tea tree oil are both used to inhibit the growth of mold.

Pour mixture over paper towels and replace lid on container. Flip container upside down for several minutes until mixture is absorbed by the paper towels.

Store container in a cool, dark place while not in use. Use your homemade wipes within two days of making to avoid mold growth.
