Tagging is a unique feature that Facebook offers to help connect friends on the social network. You can tag a user when you post a comment, when you share something on a friend's wall or when you update your own status. Tagging inserts a link into your comment or status update that allows other users to click on the friend you tagged and view his Facebook profile page. Additionally, tagged friends get a notification that you have tagged them.
Open your browser, and visit Facebook.com. Sign in to your profile.
Navigate to the page you want to tag someone via a comment or status update. You can tag a person in your own status, through a comment to a friend's status or through a post on a friend's wall.
Click in the comment, post or status update box, and input in your comment or status. Insert the "@" symbol where you want to tag a friend, and type the first letter of that friend's name directly after it. A drop-down menu will appear where you can click on that person to tag them. For example, type "I went to the park with @J" and then click on "John" from the list of friends that appear to tag your friend John in your status update.
Click "Share" or press "Enter" to post your status or comment. When the post appears, it will have a link to the tagged friend's Facebook profile page.
