Make Cat Mask for Children

Believe it or not, Halloween is right around the corner! Instead of buying an expensive costume this year, enlist the kids' help and make your own! This fun and easy cat mask takes minutes to make and the kids will love being able to help with the easier parts. Make them for the whole family to enjoy together!

Things You'll Need

To make your mask, you'll need a plain paper plate. The sturdier the paper plate, the better! You can use pretty much any color since the tape is black and will cover it up well. But if you decide to make a mask using a light colored tape, such as orange or yellow, you'll want to cover the white side of the plate so the color doesn't bleed through.

To make the cat head shape, grab a pair of scissors and trim off the plate's edge leaving two triangles for the ears. A lot of paper plates have an indentation around the trim. This makes for a perfect template! Follow the line with the scissors, but be sure to leave the two ears!

Next, grab your black duct tape! Cut off strips and cover the paper plate with them. Then, use your scissors to trim the excess duct tape from the edges. You might want to reinforce the ears by adding duct tape to the back side of the ears and trimming it off.

Now for the eyes! Using an x-acto knife, cut eye holes in the basic cat eye shape. The trick to this is to gently cut the area over and over to get a clean cut. Pushing too hard to try and cut through sooner can rip the tape.

Let's add some details! Use some white duct tape and cut thin strips for the whiskers. Then cut out a rounded triangle shape for the nose and put that on top of the whiskers.

For the finishing touch, tape a large straw or a small dowel rod to the back of the mask. And you're done! Enjoy your new cat mask!
