Gmail Unable to Deliver Email Blast

To protect against spamming, Google restricts the number of email addresses to which you can send a particular email, potentially thwarting your email blast. To successfully send a mass email via Gmail, the number of recipients must fall below your Gmail account's maximum threshold in addition to meeting other requirements. If a workaround solution doesn't meet your emailing needs, a third-party email service may be better for successfully delivering your email blast.

Types of Gmail Accounts
Google offers a number of different types of Gmail accounts. Each account type has its own restrictions on bulk emailing. In addition to the basic free Gmail account, Google also has Google Apps, Google Apps for Business and Google Apps for Education. If you access your Gmail account through an external client, such as Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird, Google sets additional limits.

Sending Limits
Regular free Gmail and Google Apps accounts allow you to email only up to 500 different recipients per day. If you have Google Apps for Business or Education, Google raises this limit to 2,000 unique recipients. If you're sending an email blast in Gmail over Post Office Protocol or Internet message access protocol using an email program such as Outlook or Apple Mail, you can only send to 100 recipients at a time. If your email blast exceeds these limits, Gmail won't send it.

Verifying Recipients
Google may also restrict your ability to send email blasts if you send messages to a significant number of invalid email addresses. Multiple undeliverable emails adds strain to Google's servers and indicates that you're not vetting your recipient list. You can avoid this issue by verifying addresses before adding them to your mailing list. For example, you could send a confirmation email requiring a recipient to click a link before you add her to a list. Many newsletter and mailing list compilation services provide this feature.

Solutions
Consider dividing your email list into segments smaller than your account limit and sending your email blast over the course of several days. If your recipient list is too large, Google suggests signing up for a Google Group to deliver messages to large numbers of readers. Alternatively, you can sign up for an email newsletter service that specializes in high-volume mailings such as MadMimi, ConstantContact or MailChimp.
