Tips to Store Surfboards

Surfers store surfing surfboards with care when they are not in use to avoid damage and maximize living space. The board doesn't need to be the latest model, but should be in good shape. Caring for a surfing surfboard is simple; storage is part of this care.

Rinse a surfing surfboard with fresh water when you come out of the ocean. Store surfboards in a surfboard bag on the way home, especially if the board is transported on top of a vehicle.

Store the surfboard out of the sun, which can cause damage over time. In addition, do not store surfboards in hot areas of the home, such as attics.

Store surfboards overhead in a garage if storage space is limited. Purchase a rack made for this task, or construct a similar model of your own design. See Resources for a do-it-yourself ceiling rack that features PVC pipe, chains and other inexpensive materials. Add foam covering to the rack to avoid any damage to the board.

Store surfboards horizontally without making holes in the wall using a tension system to keep the wall rack in place. This is ideal for renters who don't want to put extra holes in the wall

Store surfboards horizontally with purchased wall racks. Prices vary. Be sure to check the seller's reviews and shipping charges before purchasing online.

Rent space to store surfing surfboards. If you fly to follow the surf (even if it's only once or twice a year), rent a space for your personal surfboard rather than transport it on the plane. Check online for availability of this service in your surfing area.
