Tracking: Real Time Tracking

Known more commonly as GPS, global positioning technology permits people to track objects and tell their exact location whenever they want to know it. Sometimes, the tracking information used in the GPS technology is not current and is on a delay, meaning the location information will not be entirely accurate to the time.

Real time GPS tracking occurs when the information is delivered just as the tracking occurs and changes as the object moves. This is often used in vehicles and cell phones, though there are other uses for it as well. Of course, not everybody uses the technology legally, which makes it the source of much controversy.

At first, GPS was not meant to be used by the general public, designed for military use instead. However, people can use GPS technology today to find their way around unfamiliar locations by car or on foot, and they can also track the movement and location of just about any object in the world. The technology is based on a satellite that tracks the device embedded or placed in or on the object.

The information that the satellites give to the user are incredibly detailed; with real time tracking, it is possible to figure out the exact altitude, latitude and longitude of a certain object at any point in time. For example, if there is a real time GPS tracking device in a cell phone, then the Internet can be used for that person to monitor exactly where it is, such as to figure out where he lost his cell phone or to figure out where his loved ones are at any point. Objects can be tracked through this technology just about anywhere in the world.

Automobiles are the other popular vehicle for GPS tracking. For instance, someone might use such a device to figure out where his car is so that he can keep abreast of where it has stopped or where he is traveling.
