Facebook introduced a new messaging layout designed to integrate text messaging, chat and email in one simple interface. Instead of treating messages as individual entities, the new layout consolidates messages from all three mediums into contact-specific conversations. In other words, all your test messages, chats and emails sent to a particular friend are displayed within a single message interface.

Navigate to facebook.com/about/messages/.
Step 3
Click "Request an Invitation." At the time of publication, Facebook is sending invites almost immediately to all users who are not yet using the new messages layout.
