Ideas to Customize Facebook Theme

Most social networking websites, including Twitter and MySpace, let users customize their profiles by changing the colors of text, links, the pages, and adding images to the background. However, Facebook is very strict in what a user's profile must look like. Facebook users can customize their profile by using the five tagged images at the top of their profile to create one image -- a header -- using a graphic editing program and the Profile Banner Creator application on Facebook.

Instructions
Step 1

Find a photo you want to use for your header. It can be a photo of you, a band or movie you really like, a photograph you find striking, or even an image of a quote you like. Make sure the photo is horizontal. Save the photo to your computer.

Step 2

Log into your Facebook account.

Step 3
Click "View Profile." Press the "PrtSc SysRQ" key on a PC or hit "Command-Shift-Step 4" on a Mac to take a screenshot of your Facebook profile.

Step 4
Open a graphic editing program such as GIMP, Corel PaintShop Photo Pro or Adobe PhotoShop.

Step 5
Click "File," then "New Image." Click "File" again, then "Paste" to paste the screenshot into the blank canvas.

Step 6
Click "File," then "Open." Double-click on the photo you saved. It will open as another image.

Step 7
Crop the screenshot so you see just the five thumbnails. Make sure not to resize the image so it is bigger or smaller than it appears on your Facebook profile.

Step 8
Press "Ctrl-A" to select the entire cropped screenshot. Press "Ctrl-C" to copy the screenshot.

Step 9

Open the photo you want to make the header.

Step 10
Click "File," then "Paste as new layer." The screenshot will appear over the photo, but in the same canvas.

Step 11
Move the screenshot so it is positioned directly over what you want to be seen in the header.

Step 12
Crop the photo so all you see is the screenshot.

Step 13
Right-click on the layer of the screenshot in the layers menu on the bottom-right corner of the screen. Click "Delete" to remove the layer.

Step 14
Save the cropped photo.

Step 15
Open the "Profile Banner Creator" application on Facebook and upload the cropped photo. The application will automatically divide the photo into five thumbnails and set it as your header.
