For those who prefer to have some privacy remain in the world of Internet blogging and social networking, learning how to remove comment boxes can help with such a goal. Most popular online domains offer a way to remove comments, and on the list are Facebook, MySpace, Blogger, LiveJournal and WordPress. Knowing how to disable comments on such sites will allow you healthy boundaries and the ability to discern who does and does not comment on your sites.

Facebook recently removed the ability to remove comments from your homepage, however, there are ways to get around this and still disable commenting if that's your desire. The first way is to log in to your account, and click the "Privacy Settings." From there, select "Customize Settings," and scroll down to "Things Others Share." In this category, click the padlock icon to the right of "Can Comment on Posts." Type in the names of those you want to be able to comment, leaving the rest out. You can also go down one option further and uncheck "Enable" under "Friends Can Post On My Wall." This will disable your wall, taking away the ability for anyone to comment on it.
MySpace does not have a direct way to remove comment boxes, but you can easily do it by using a third-party source code. To hide or remove your comment section, click the "Edit Profile" link located next to your main picture. Cut and paste a code off of a website such as MyWickedSpace.com (see Resources for exact link). This should be pasted into your "About Me" section. Save your changes, and your "Add Comment" link should disappear.
Blogger has made it very simple for users to disable comments. From your dashboard, go to "Settings" and then to "Comments." Click "Hide" to make the comment link on your blog posts disappear. You can also filter who exactly is allowed to comment, and who is not, if you prefer to allow friends to comment but would like to prohibit strangers.
On WordPress, go into the Dashboard and find the heading labeled "Comments." This will not allow your comment box to be removed, but it does give you the ability to delete comments that have been added. You can also disable the feature by going under "Settings." You can choose if you want comments to be disabled completely, or if you would like them to be unavailable for just one blog post. You can also have comments emailed to you privately, rather than having them show up on your page. You can then opt to show your favorite comments.
LiveJournal, one of the original blog sites, allows its users to disable comment links. To remove a comment box from your blog, you can click on the "Privacy" tab under "My Account Settings." Select "Nobody" next to the "Enable Comments" option, and your comment link will be disabled. Make sure you save the settings by scrolling to the bottom of the page, or else the changes will not remain. Like WordPress, you can also elect to have comments moderated on a per post basis, disabling and enabling as you choose.
