Facebook conversations consist of private messages, chat and text messages exchanged on the social networking site. Each friend or group of friends that you converse with on Facebook has its own conversation that can be accessed via the messages application. If you no longer want to see an older conversation in the list of new messages, click the "Archive" option at the top of the conversation. When you open a conversation, either new or archived, the newest message in the thread appears at the bottom of the conversation.
Log in to your Facebook account and click on the "Messages" link in the left column of your homepage screen. All of your previous conversations open, with the newest conversation at the top of the screen.
Click on the right-facing arrow at the bottom of the screen to access older conversations. Open a conversation by clicking on the name of the friend or friends who are a part of it.
Access archived conversations by clicking on the blue "Archived" link in the "View" section, located at the bottom of your list of conversations.
Use the search box at the top of the screen to find old conversations by key word. Facebook will search both the content of the conversations and names of the people with whom you exchanged messages to find conversations that match your key words.
