Get Rid of Yellow Triangle on Facebook

If you see the yellow triangle icon while trying to use Facebook chat, you should perform a few troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. When the icon appears, it means there is a connection problem with Facebook's chat servers. Sometimes you'll only see this icon temporarily, but other times it may persist for several minutes to hours. If troubleshooting doesn't resolve the situation, Facebook does provide a form to report chat connectivity issues.

Go to facebook.com, sign in to your account and use the chat feature on the site. If you see a yellow triangle icon where the chat box would be in the bottom right corner of the screen, check that you can access other parts of the website. Click your "Profile" link at the top of the screen or select a friend's profile link to visit a different area of the site. If the profile loads, then only the chat feature is affected.

Log out of your Facebook account, then log back in. Sometimes logging back in to your account resets the chat server you were using to connect with your friends.

Close the browser entirely by clicking the red "X" icon at the top of the window if the chat box is still not working. Relaunch the browser, go to facebook.com and sign in to your account again. Try accessing the site's chat feature and see if the yellow triangle returns.

Clear the temporary Internet files and cookies for your browser. For example, if you are using Internet Explorer, click the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options." Stay on the "General" tab and click the "Delete Files" button, and then check the boxes for "Cookies" and "Temporary Internet Files." Click the "Apply" button, then restart the browser and return to facebook.com to try again.

Report the chat connectivity issue to Facebook if you are still unable to connect. From inside your Facebook account, click the "Account" menu at the top of the page and select the "Help Center" option. Type "Yellow Triangle" in the search box and press the "Enter" key. On the next page, click the "I Am Unable to Connect to Chat" link and click the "Please Click Here" link at the bottom of the help article.

Fill in the "Chat Disconnection" form with the type of issue you are encountering. Let the Facebook staff know you are seeing a yellow triangle icon when attempting to connect to chat and the duration of time you've experienced the problem. Click the "Submit" button.
