Facebook not only lets users set up individual profiles, but it also lets users create groups. These groups can be for community organizations that include churches, schools or clubs, as well as for shared experiences or likes. When you create a new group on Facebook, you will automatically be given the title of administrator -- which Facebook calls "admin" for short -- and have the ability to add additional admins to the group. Whether you can see these admins depends on the privacy setting of the group.
How to Create Group
Once you log in to your Facebook account, you will see the option to Create Group on the column on the left side of your homepage; if you are already a member of several groups, you may have to click on the "More" link to see this option. Click on the "Create Group" button on the landing page, and enter the name of your group in the text box on the popup window. You will also be able to add the names of other Facebook users you would like to add to the group, as well as decide whether you want your group to be open, closed or secret.
Open Groups
If you choose to make your group an open group, all other Facebook users will be able to see the group, who is in it and what members have posted on the group's wall. At the top righthand column of the group's page is an area with members' pictures. Click on the text that says "See All." This will take you to a page where all the group's members are listed in no particular order. At the top of the list is an option to "View Admins." Click on this link to see the individuals who act as the administrators for this Facebook group.
Closed Groups
Closed groups are visible to other users on Facebook. These individuals can see which users are members of this group, but they will be unable to see any wall posts affiliated with this group. When people land on your group's homepage on Facebook, they won't see the wall; instead, they will see a breakdown of the group's members. This breakdown includes friends who are members of this group, group admins and other group members.
Secret Groups
A secret group is the only type of Facebook group that does not allow non-members to see who is the group's administrator. By making your group secret, you will keep non-members from being able to publicly search for the group on Facebook; to a non-member, it will appear as if the group does not exist. Because the group will be virtually hidden to non-members, the list of admins will also be hidden from view.
Group Members
Regardless of what type of group you create on Facebook, all of the group's members will be able to see who is the admin. Facebook does not allow groups to hide admin information from group members. This is because the admin is in charge of the group, and his information must remain public so the group members know whom to contact in case of a problem with the group, such as malicious postings to the group's wall.
