Setting Up Facebook Video Calling

Facebook's Video Calling feature lets you quickly set up a chat with your Facebook contacts using your computer's webcam and microphone. You can only start a video call with contacts that are signed on at the time. When you set up video calling correctly and you make video calls using Facebook, the service launches a video chat window for you. However, prior to making any video calls on Facebook, you must first go through a few quick steps to complete the setup process for the software on your computer.

Log in to your Facebook account and visit the timeline of the friend you want to video call. The friend must be signed in to Facebook at the same time to accept the call.

Click the "Call" button at the top of the page. A pop-up dialog box appears, asking you to install the Facebook Video Call Plug-In Installer. Click the blue "Install" button.

Allow the software to install on your computer. You may need to click the "Keep" button in your browser to confirm that you want to download the software onto your PC.

Click the downloaded file to run it, and follow the on-screen instructions to install it onto your computer. Once the setup is complete, Facebook attempts to call your contact, who must accept the call to connect with you through video calling.

Precautions

You can still use Facebook Video Calling even if you don't have a webcam installed on your computer. You can still see your friend's video feed, but your friend can only hear you.
If you're already chatting with your friend using text chat, click the video icon in the chat window to start a video call with that friend.
