Stop Commenting on Facebook

Facebook comments are the remarks left beneath a user's post. Someone who is not on your friend list is never allowed to post new content to your Wall, and by default, only friends can leave comments. It is possible to block one of your own friends from commenting on your posts, but you are not at liberty to add restrictions to the posts you leave on someone else's Wall.

Your Profile
Facebook gives you the ability to control exactly who has access to your profile content, and the commenting feature is no exception. By default, anyone on your friend list is able to see and comment on your wall posts. You can, however, block someone on your friend list from creating new comments. Keep in mind that hiding the comment feature from another Facebook user does not automatically hide your posts from that user. You must also change the privacy settings for your wall to keep the user from viewing posts.

Others' Profiles
When you post content to the Wall of a friend, anyone who is on that person's friend list is allowed to comment on it. Because you are posting to a Wall that belongs to another person, you are unable to control the comment feature associated with the post. Only the owner of the Wall to which you are posting is allowed to stop someone from commenting on his or her Wall posts. If you repeatedly receive unwanted comments on your posts on another user's Wall, consider sending the friend a private message instead.

Privacy Settings
Stop a friend from commenting on your posts by going to the "Account" link in the top-right corner of any Facebook screen and choosing "Privacy Settings" from the menu. Go to the "Customize settings" link in the "Sharing on Facebook" section. Scroll down to the "Things others share" section and click on the gray icon next to "Permission to comment on your posts." Choose "Customize" from the gray privacy menu and enter the name of the person you want to block from commenting in the "Hide this from" field.

Considerations
A friend is never notified when you stop him or her from accessing the comment feature, but your friend is apt to notice that the privilege has been taken away. If you do not trust someone to leave comments on your profile, consider just taking that person off your friend list. There is an "Unfriend" link in the left column of every user's profile that will quickly cancel your friendship.
