Facebook, the world's largest social media website, supports a chat function that allows you to send instant messages to anyone currently browsing Facebook. Facebook chat is a convenient way to say hi to a friend or have a long conversation with someone close, without having to use a separate instant messaging program. When chatting in Facebook chat, certain codes you type trigger Facebook emoticons, or smiley face icons that appear in the message. If you want to add smiley face icons into your Facebook chat, insert the correct code into the message.
Open your browser and visit facebook-smiley.net/emoticons for a list of all supported Facebook emoticons.
Locate the emoticon you wish to add into your Facebook chat. Some emoticons have several codes that trigger the smiley face, while others have only one. For example, you can use any of the following codes to create a standard smiley face:

Visit Facebook.com and sign into your account, if not already signed in.
Click on the "Chat" tab in the lower right corner and click on one of your contacts in the list to start a chat with that contact.
Type in your message and insert the emoticon code anywhere in the message with spaces before and after it.
Press "Enter" to send the message. When you send the message the emoticon will change into a smiley face icon. Repeat the process to insert smiley face icons throughout your messages.
