Facebook is a social networking site that lets you keep in touch with your friends, family, clients or business associates. A popular feature of the site is the online chat system, integrated seamlessly into every page on the network. Chatting with your network is at times beneficial, but you may decide you need to ignore the chat message pop-ups. If you would like to appear invisible and remain signed into chat or simply go offline, you can do both quite easily.
Invisible Mode
Sign into your Facebook account with your email and password. Click the "Login" button.
Click the "Chat" bar in the lower right corner. Next, click "Friend lists" and type the word "Invisible" in the "Type a list name" text field. Hit the "Enter" key.
Click the white slider once to turn it off for each list and the "Other Friends" group. The slider color will turn from green to gray. Leave the "Invisible" list turned on or so it appears as green. This will leave you logged into chat, but invisible to everyone. It will still show you the number count for those friends who are signed into chat.
Offline Mode
Log into your Facebook account, using your sign-in credentials. Click "Login."
Click the "Chat" bar at the bottom left corner.
Click "Options" and choose the "Go offline" option. You will immediately go offline from chat and none of your friends will see you logged into the Facebook chat service.
