Lower Video Resolution to Upload to Facebook

Facebook's video upload tools give you an easy way to share your home movies or business promotional products with friends and fans. However, files can be no larger than 1,024 megabytes -- one gigabyte. If you have an HD video or have exported your video with full-quality settings, you may find it is too large to upload to Facebook. To remedy the problem, save the video file in a lower-quality format.

Facebook allows you to upload videos, but they can't be too large.Open Windows Movie Maker (or a similar video editing program) and then open the video file you want to upload.

Drag the video to the timeline/storyboard of the video editor.

Click "Publish Movie," then give the file a name. Click "Next."

Click "More Settings" from the "Choose your Settings" tab at the next screen. The idea is to save the video in a lower-quality setting than you did previously, so if you exported your video as "Best Quality," "Full Quality" or a similar setting previously, choose a lower-quality setting now. When you've selected a quality setting, click "Publish." Your video could take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more to export.

View the video file you just exported by opening the folders and files on your computer and viewing the file information. Look at the video file size to determine if you've exported or "compressed" the file to an appropriate size. If not, repeat the export process with even lower-quality settings.
