Talk on Facebook Without Talking to Someone Else

In the world of social networking, much of the draw is allowing other people to view the conversations and interactions you're having with other people, businesses or other entities. If you're just getting started with Facebook, you may be overwhelmed and unable to sort out the difference between public and private interaction. But rest assured there is a simple way to talk or "message" someone on Facebook, without the rest of the world being able to see it.

Log in to Facebook with your username and password.

Navigate to the profile page of the person you want to send a message to. You can do this by searching for their name in the "Search" box at the top of the Facebook platform, or by clicking on their name or photo in your News Feed.

Click "Send Message" near the top right corner of that person's profile page.

Type in the message you want to send, then click "Send." The person will be alerted that they have a new message the next time they log in to Facebook.
