Add Information to Google

Google may have the largest information database in the world, but that doesn't mean it has every piece of information in existence. You can add your own information to Google by using Google Sites to make a web page containing the information; adding an existing site with that information to Google's database; and/or writing a Google Knol article. If you add your information to a site already indexed by Google, such as Wikipedia or eHow, it will also appear in search results the next time Google updates its search index.

Create a New Site with Google Sites
Log in to Google Sites.

Click "Create Site."

Click on the template you want to use. Enter a name for your site and choose a unique URL (web address).

Click "Create Site."

Click "Edit Page" in the upper right corner to customize the page with your own content. Click "Save" when you're finished.

Click "Create page" in the upper right corner to add pages to your website.

Add a Site to Google's Index
Visit the "Add URL to Google" page (see Resources).

Enter the URL of the top-level section of the site you wish to add. For example, if your home page is "http://www.example.com/yourname/index.html," you would enter "http://www.example.com/yourname"; if your home page is "http://www.yourdomain.com/home.php," you would enter "http://www.yourdomain.com".

Enter any special notes or keywords in the "Comments" field.

Type the letters shown in the CAPTCHA box.

Click "Add URL."

Create a Google Knol Page
Visit Google Knol (see Resources).

Type the keyword(s) of the content you wish to contribute into the search box, and click "Search."

Click "Create Knol" in the upper right corner if there is no adequate existing article on the topic and you want to write a new one. Alternately, if you see a Knol article on your topic, click on its title to read the article and click "Edit this Knol" if you can contribute to or clarify its content.

Choose whether you want to create a new Knol from scratch or work from an existing Knol template, then click "Create Knol."

Type and format your content. Click "Save" to save your information, and click "Close" when you're finished.
