No one likes pop-up advertisements--they not only distract from the task at hand but superimpose themselves over top of it. If you're seeing a lot of pop-up ads while using Google search, rest assured that the problem is not Google. It doesn't use pop-up ads. What is the problem? It could be a number of things. Stopping Google from displaying pop-up ads is a matter of finding out what the problem is and solving it.
Check that you're actually using Google. Many websites attempt to look like Google by signing up similar Web addresses such as googl.com. The real Google never uses pop-up advertisements during its search results, but some sites using Google's search results might. After doing a Google search look at the address bar and make sure the URL is "Google.com" and not something else. If it is something else, simply do your future searches at Google.com.
International versions of Google, such as Google.ca or Google.co.uk, are also safe. If you're using one of these sites switching to Google.com won't help you.
Scan your computer for spyware, viruses, Trojans and other forms of malware. Such infections will frequently cause pop-up ads to appear over sites that otherwise do not feature them, such as Google.com.
If you don't have anti-malware software be sure to check out Microsoft Security Essentials (free download; see Resources.) This free antivirus software from Microsoft can check your computer for all forms of malware.
Switch browsers. Some browsers are better at blocking pop-ups than others. Firefox (free download; see Resources) is famous for its pop-up blocker, and it is free.
