How to Limit Search Returns

Searching for a particular word, phrase, product or image can be difficult thanks to the vast amount of information out there from which search engines pull information. While many search engines allow you to do a "news" search or an "Image" search to limit search returns, this only helps if you are searching for something that falls into one of these categories. One efficient way to limit search returns is to use Google's Custom Search feature, which allows you to determine where Google searches to find the information you seek.

Type "http://www.google.com/cse" into your web browser's URL field.

Log in to Google's Custom Search using the user name and password you use for Buzz, Gmail or Google Reader. Click "Create a Custom Search Engine."

Fill out basic information on the next page, including what you want to name the search engine, what language you want the search to be in and a description of for what your engine will search.

Choose "Only Sites I Select" under "What Do You Want to Search?"

Type the names of the websites you want to search under "Select some sites."

Click "Standard edition" under "Select an edition."

View the terms of service and check the "I have read and agree to the Terms of Service" check box. A new page will open.

Type a word or phrase into the search box on the new page that opens. It will only give you results from the websites you entered in step 5. You have now limited search returns.
