Keep Someone From Tracking Google Searches

The most effective way to avoid people finding out what you searched for on Google is using a Web browser that offers private browsing. The private browsing feature allows you to hide your search history, visited websites, Web cookies and data you entered on those websites. Three major Web browsers -- Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome -- offer this feature built-in but may call it something different.

Mozilla Firefox
Double-click the icon for the Firefox browser.

Click "Firefox" menu and click "Start Private Browsing." If necessary, click the "Start Private Browsing" button when a dialog box appears. The "Private Browsing" notification appears, alerting you that all Web activity is private and secure.

Type "google.com" into the address bar and conduct your search as normal.

Microsoft Internet Explorer
Open Microsoft Internet Explorer from your computer.

Click the gear icon in the upper right corner. Click "Safety" from the drop-down menu and click "InPrivate Browsing." A new browser window automatically opens and you see a notification saying "InPrivate is turned on."

Type "google.com" in the address field on the "InPrivate" window. Use the Google search engine as you normally would.

Google Chrome
Launch the Google Chrome browser.

Click the "Wrench" icon at the upper right corner.

Click "New incognito window" from the drop-down menu. A new window opens automatically, indicating "You've gone incognito."
