In the fall of 2007, the Google homepage had its "lights turned off" in the San Francisco area in order to raise awareness of energy conservation. You may find that the all-black Google homepage is also much easier on the eyes than the standard bright white Google background. Whenever you use any of the black Google homepages that are listed below, all search results that appear will also be posted on a Web page with an all-black background.
Blackle
Open the Web browser of your choice on your computer.
Type "blackle.com" in the address bar.
Press "Enter" on the keyboard. The "Blackle" Web page, a Google search page with a black background, opens.
BPLED
Open any Web browser window on the computer.
Type "black-google.bpled.com" in the browser's address bar.
Press the "Enter" key on the keyboard. The "BPLED" Web page, a Google search homepage with a black background, opens in the browser.
Black Google
Open a Web browser window.
Type "blackgoogle.info" in the browser's address bar. Press "Enter" to open the "Black Google" homepage.
Type your name or any other value (For example "Black Google") in the box underneath the "Enter your name" heading on the Black Google homepage.
Click "Create My Search Engine". The Google search page appears, and the name or phrase you entered in Step 3 will be listed in the center of the page.
