Tips to Disable Google Notifications

Disable Google notifications and alerts to improve your productivity.If you are drowning in a sea of Google notifications, disable the notifications in the originating application. Google+ notifications can be configured to send you an email or SMS every time someone comments on a photo or post. Google Talk can be configured to notify you when a friend wants to chat, and Google Calendar sends you reminders for events. Gmail can notify your mobile device when an email arrives even when you are not logged in. Though notifications offer convenience, many users find that these alerts can quickly become excessive. Disable notifications for each Google product to eliminate the daily flood of emails from Google.

Google Talk
Open Google Talk and click “Settings” on the top bar of your Friends list.

Hold the cursor over “Notifications” in the left navigation menu to display a sub-menu of Notification options. A list of Notification settings with check boxes displays.

Click the check box next to the “Disable All Notifications” option to disable all Google Talk notifications. You can also click each individual notification option to uncheck and disable the option.

Click “OK” to save the settings.

Google Calendar
Click the “Down” arrow next to the calendar to edit in the Google Calendars page. Editing options are displayed.

Click the “Reminders and Notifications" option, and then click “Remove" next to each reminder.

Click each check box in the "Choose How You Would Like to Be Notified" section to deselect and disable each notification option.

Click the “Save" button. Repeat the steps for each of your Google calendars.

Google+
Log in to your Google+ account, and then click your name in the top Google Notification Bar.

Click the “Account Settings” link followed by the “Google+” link in the Account Settings menu.

Scroll down to the “Receive Notifications” section in the Account Settings menu. A list of actions with a corresponding check box for each entry displays.

Click the check box next to each notification to disable. Navigate away from the page to save the settings.

Gmail App
Open the “Gmail” app on your device, and press the “Menu” key to view the Gmail menu.

Tap the “Settings” icon, and then tap on a notification option. Choices are “All Mail,” “Primary Only” and “None” in the iPhone app. Tap the “None” option to disable all notifications on the iPhone. On the Android app, click the account to edit, and then uncheck the check box in front of “Notifications.” Press the “Back” or “Home” key to navigate away from the screen and save the settings.

Disable individual notifications on the iPhone by tapping the “Settings” option followed by “Notifications.” Tap “Gmail” and uncheck each checked individual notification option to disable.
