Tips to Use Google Analytics

The Google Analytics system is one of Google's service-oriented applications. Its bright, easy-to-use interface is designed to integrate seamlessly with several of Google's other products, such as Gmail and GoogleDocs. At its core, it is a powerful web analysis tool that can track users as they enter, search and leave a website.

Create a Google account and log into the Google Analytics website. Google Analytics, like all Google programs, requires a Google login. Unlike other Google services, you'll need to add more personal information to the Analytics account such as your name, your phone number and time zone. The same username and password will give you access to all their products.

Continue setting up your account until you have to choose which tracking method to use. There are two options: the legacy urchin.js method or the newer ga.js method. The urchin option is only a good choice if you have an older version of urchin already on your website. Nearly everyone should choose ga.js.

Add the proper script to every page of your website. You can simply copy and paste it from the Google Analytics page onto your website. Place the code snippet immediately before the close BODY tag.

Proceed to the next page. This is the main window for your Google Analytics account. From here you can access all of your analyzed websites. The Reports link takes you to the raw information gathered by the program, and Goals allows you to set up advertising and traffic goals for your site.

Load up the Reports page. This section is where most users spend their time. One side of the page contains categories of gathered information, and the other side has common questions about the generated reports. The middle of the page contains all of the usage statistics for your website.
