Copy Gmail to Compact Disc

While Google's Gmail service allows extensive space for your email messages, you may wish to create a personal backup copy of certain ones. Post Office Protocol is designed to put the load of email messages on the user, instead of the server. Typically, implementing POP with an email account downloads your inbox to a computer and then deletes the original server-based copy. Gmail can be set up for use with POP. If you do this, it is easy then to copy your messages to a compact disc.

Log in to your Gmail account.

View your account Settings.

Select the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.

Confirm that POP downloading is enabled. If you wish to save your messages in Gmail's inbox as well, make sure you have this option selected in the drop-down menu.

Log in to your Gmail account through a POP client. Eudora, Outlook Express and Mozilla Thunderbird are all popular clients. You will be prompted for your email address and password.

Allow your inbox to download and determine the local location to which it is downloaded.

Burning the CD
Insert a blank CD into your CD drive.

Open a CD-burning program capable of making data CDs. There are many free programs available that have this capability, such as CDBurnerXP.

Select the folder to which your inbox was downloaded. Add this to the burning queue.

Burn the CD.
