Gmail is a Web-based email service featuring a built-in text and video chat client called Google Talk. You can use your webcam in Gmail in order to take advantage of the video chat functionality. To set up the webcam, you must install the Google Talk browser plug-in available for all major Web browsers. Once you do that, you can test and tweak your webcam settings.
Connect the webcam to your computer.
Launch a Web browser and navigate to google.com/chat/video.
Click "Install voice and video chat" to download and install the Google Talk video plug-in.
Restart your Web browser,and then navigate to gmail.com and log into your account.
Click the settings cog at the top right and select "Mail Settings."
Select the "Chat" tab.
Select your webcam from the "Camera" drop-down menu.
Click "Verify your settings" to test the webcam, and then click "Save Changes."
Hover your mouse over a Google Talk contact, and then click "Video & More." Select "Start video chat" to use your webcam in a video chat with your contacts.
