Gmail lets you archive emails as part of its storage capabilities. To archive email, you select the messages you want to save and click on the "Archive" button on the menu bar atop the screen to move the messages from the inbox to the "All Mail" folder. When you delete archived emails, they are moved to the Trash folder. If you don't manually delete the archived messages from the Trash folder, Google will automatically delete them after 30 days.
Log in to your Gmail account with your user ID and password.
Click on the "All Mail" link on the left side of the screen. If you don't see the link, click on the "More" link and select "All Mail" from the pull-down menu.
Click on the box located to the left of each archived email you want to delete. A black check mark will appear in each box.
Click the "Delete" button atop the screen. A warning window will appear that says the selected conversations will be removed from any Gmail views, including search results, and will ask if you are sure you want to move the messages to the Trash folder. Click the "OK" button.
Click on the "Trash" link on the left side of the screen. If it's not visible, click on the "More" link and select "Trash" from the pull-down menu.
Click on the boxes next to the Archive messages that you moved to the Trash folder.
Click the "Delete Forever" button atop the screen. A message will appear in a yellow window confirming the conversations have been deleted.
