Gmail is free email software from Google. When you sign up for a Gmail account, you are able to send and receive emails on the internet. Along with the ability to connect and communicate with your contacts online, however, Google also provides you with a 'Google User Account' which offers access to other Google web products and services. All this comes bundled together when you establish a Gmail account.
You may cancel your entire Google User Account or simply cancel the Gmail component. Here's how:
Go online and navigate to your Gmail account. Log into your Gmail account and select 'Settings' in the upper right-hand corner, beside your Gmail address.
Next, select the second tab titled 'Accounts and Import.' Within that tab, locate the 'Change Account Settings' section near the bottom of the page. Select 'Google Account Settings.'
The 'Google Account Settings' link will take you to a dashboard with all of your Google Account information. The bold headings will likely be PROFILE, MY PRODUCTS, TRY SOMETHING NEW, and PERSONAL SETTINGS. To the right of MY PRODUCTS will be an 'edit' option.
Clicking on 'edit' will open a window where you will be given 2 options: 'Delete a Product' or 'Delete Account.' Now you must determine whether you want to delete your entire 'Google User Account' including all the Google services, or simply cancel the email component - Gmail.
Choose 'Remove Gmail Permanently' to delete the Gmail account only. Check the appropriate box, enter your password and then click the 'Remove Gmail' button.
Click the 'Close Account and Delete All Services and Info Associated With It' button under the 'Delete Account' heading to close the entire Google Account - including Gmail - and delete all the services and information associated with it. Next, check the box, enter your password and then click the appropriate button.
