Make Bold & Italic Letters on Gmail

Italicizing or bolding text in your Gmail message emphasizes a part of your message or calls attention to a point in the same way it would in a conventional document or text. Gmail provides bold and italics buttons in the list of menu buttons available directly above a message. As an alternative, you can use a key combination to enable the functionality.

Open your Web browser and navigate to gmail.com.

Enter your Google username and password to log in to your Gmail account.

Click "Compose Mail" on the left side of the screen beneath Mail to open a new message or click "Reply" in the upper-right corner of a message you are viewing to reply to a message.

Press the "Ctrl" and "B" keys at the same time to enable bold text. The "B" button in the list of buttons directly above the message field will become shaded, indicating bold text is enabled.

You can also just click the "B" button to turn on bold text. When you are done typing the bold text, press the "Ctrl" and "B" keys turn turn off the bold text or click the "B" button.

To bold text, you can also highlight the text and press either the "Ctrl" and "B" keys at the same time, or press the "B" button.

Press the "Ctrl" and "I" keys at the same time to enable italics text. The "I" button in the list of buttons directly above the message field will become shaded, indicating italic text is enabled.

You can also just click the "I" button to turn on italic text. When you are done typing the italic text, press the "Ctrl" and "I" keys turn turn off the italic text or click the "I" button.

To italicize text, you can also highlight the text and press either the "Ctrl" and "I" keys at the same time, or press the "I" button.
