Google's Gmail allows you to receive email from up to five POP email accounts that you have outside of Gmail. Gmail retrieves the mail for you, but the amount of time between each fetch will vary. Each time an email comes in from your POP account, Google waits to check your email a bit longer the next time it retrieves your mail. This increases your wait time for your POP email. You can immediately fetch new POP email by using the Google Labs POP refresher feature for Gmail.
Log in to your Gmail account using your Gmail email address and password.
Click on the "Options" icon in top right corner of your Gmail page and select "Settings."
Click on the "Labs" tab.
Locate the "Refresh POP accounts" section. Select the "Enable" option. Click the "Save Changes" button.
Select the "Inbox" link on the left menu.
Click the "Refresh" button to immediately download all new email from your POP email accounts.
