Send Photos by Gmail

You can add photos to your Gmail message as attachments, hyperlinks, Web links and embedded images -- also called inline images. Each option is accessible from the toolbar at the bottom of a Compose Message window. Depending on the option, you can add photos from your computer, your Google Drive account, a URL and even your Google+ account. If necessary, you can also remove photos before you send your message.

Step 1
Sign in to your Gmail dashboard and click the Compose button to open a New Message window. Enter the email address of your recipient, the subject of your message and the email message in the appropriate fields. Click the Full-Screen button at the upper right corner of the window to expand the New Message window. Review the options to add photos to your message on the toolbar at the bottom of the window. Use the toolbar's Attach Files, Insert Files Using Drive, Insert Photo and Insert Link icons to add your photos.

Click the Attach Files icon to open a new File Explorer window.

Browse to the photos, select them and then click the Open button to add them to your message as attachments. To select two or more photos simultaneously, press and hold the Ctrl key and then click each photo.

Click the Send button to send your message with the attachments. The attached photos appear after the content of your message. To remove an attached photo from your message before you send it, click the X on the attachment.

Click the Insert Files Using Drive icon to open the Insert Files Using Google Drive dialog window.

Click the My Drive tab, browse to the photos you want to add and then select them. You can also use the photos that other people have shared with you by clicking the Shared With Me tab. In addition, you can upload photos from your computer by clicking the Upload tab. Once your photo is selected:

To add each photo to your message as a Web link to its Google Drive location, click the Drive Link button.

To attach the photo directly to the message, click the Attachment button.
Click Insert.

Send your email message with your photos from Google Drive by clicking Send. To delete an attached photo from Google Drive, hover your cursor over the photo Web link and then click X when it appears.

Place your cursor at the point in your message where you want to place the inline photo. Click the Insert Photo icon to open the Insert Photo dialog window.

Click the appropriate tab that has the photos you want to embed in your message. For example, click the Upload tab and then browse to the photos you want to add. To add photos from your Google+ account, select the Photos or Albums tab. To add a photo from a Web address, select the Web Address (URL) tab.

Select the photos, click the Inline button and then click the Insert button. The photos appear in your messages at the point where you placed the cursor.

Click Send to email the message with your inline photos. To delete an inline photo, click the photo and then select Remove.

Place your cursor at the location in your message where you want to insert the photo hyperlink. Click the Insert Link icon to open the Edit Link dialog window.

Enter the text you want to display as the hyperlink in the Text to Display field. Select the Web Address radio button and enter the photo's full Web address in the To What URL Should This...? field. Click the OK button to insert the hyperlink in your message at the location you placed the cursor.

Click Send to email the message containing your photo hyperlink. To remove the photo hyperlink from your message, click the hyperlink and then select Remove.

Tips & Warnings

The maximum file size that you can attach to a Gmail message is 25MB. If you need to attach a file that larger than 25MB, use the Insert Files Using Drive option. You can attach files from Google Drive up to a maximum of 15GB in size.
You can drag a photo directly into the Message field of a Compose Message window.
You cannot attach an executable file to a Gmail message. The email service prevents EXE attachments as a security measure.
The RAR, TAR, ZIP, TGZ, GZ, TAZ and Z file types are not accepted by Gmail. A message containing one of these file types is automatically returned even if the file is zipped.
