Email is a service provided by companies on the Internet through which you can send free messages to other users. Photographs are also sent through email as a way of sharing memories or simply livening up an otherwise boring text message. Photos may be embedded in the body of an email message or sent as an attachment. Either way, both types of media are able to be extracted and downloaded to a person's home computer.
Log in to your email account. Open the email message that has the photos attached to it. Emails with attachments will have a small paper clip picture next to the subject line when viewing the subjects in your in-box.
Double-click on the attached file. The file will have a photo extension such as ".jpeg" or ".bmp". A window will appear with several options.
Click "Save" to save the file to your computer. Click "Open" to view it in a window without saving it.
Select the location in which you would like to save the file after you have clicked "Save" in the window that appears. The location that first opens up will be the last location to which you saved a file. To access your desktop or "My Documents" folder, simply use the large shortcut buttons on the left-hand side of the window. To choose a more specific folder, use the drop-down menu at the top of the window. Type in a new file name if you would like to change its name under "File Name." The file type will be automatically chosen to be the same file type it was received as.
Click "OK" to finish saving.
Saving an Embedded Photo
Log in to your email, and open the message with the embedded photos. An embedded photo is a picture that was pasted directly into the email's message body, not sent as an attachment.
Right-click on the photo, and select "Save As" if your email program will allow you. Email programs like Google and Yahoo will allow this, but some Microsoft programs like Outlook will not. If you can, save the file to your chosen location in the window that appears. If you cannot, right-click and select "Copy" instead.
Open Windows Paint, a program that comes standard with all Windows operating systems. You can access Paint by going to "Start," "All Programs," then "Paint." If you would prefer to work in another photo-editing software, you may open that instead.
Right-click on the white work space in Paint, and select "Paste." This will copy the image from the email into the Paint program.
Choose "File" from the toolbar menu options, and select "Save." Choose the location where you would like to save the file, and click "OK."
