Google offers users a variety of free features in its online document service, Google Docs. Not only can you create new documents, spreadsheets, drawings, forms and presentations, you can also upload files in other formats such as MS Word or Excel and open them using Google Docs. Another handy feature is the ability to use Gmail to send documents as email attachments directly from your Google Docs page. If you prefer to use another email account, you will need to download the document first and then attach it to your email message.
Log in to your Google Docs account.
Select the document you want to send as an email attachment. It will open in a separate tab or browser window.
Click the "Share" drop-down menu in the upper-right corner of the document's screen and select "Email as attachment." A Gmail message pop-up window will open.
Enter the recipient address or addresses into the To field. Click "Choose from contacts" to select recipients from your Gmail contacts.
Enter a message into the message field, if you want, and click the "Send" button at the bottom of the window.
Using Another Email Provider
Log in to your Google Docs account and select the document you want to send.
Click the file menu, select "Download as" and select the file format. You have several options, including .odt, .doc and .pdf. Select a format that your recipient will be able to open. The document will download to your default download location.
Open your email client or log in to your Web-based email service.
Create a new message and enter the recipients into the appropriate fields.
Click the "Add attachment" or similar option and browse to your download folder to find the Google document you just downloaded. Click the file to attach it to the message. Send the message and file as you would any other attachment.
