How to Check My Mail

The term "snail mail" appeared soon after email usage became widespread due to the comparably lightning-fast sending and receiving time. Standard letters, which can take several days to arrive, simply can't compete with messages that only take several seconds to arrive. If you have an email account set up on your computer, using it to check for new email is one of the many tasks you can perform.

Open up your email program. The default program in Windows 7 and Vista is Windows Mail, and the default program in Windows XP is Outlook Express. Access one of these programs by going to the Start menu, clicking "All Programs," and then clicking on it.

How to Check My Mail
Click on the "Send/Receive" button in the top menu bar to check your email account for new messages. If there are any, they will now appear in your inbox.

Set automatic email checking by clicking on the "Tools" menu and selecting "Options." Open the "General" tab, check the check-box next to "Check for new messages" and type the interval (in minutes) between automatic checking. Click "Apply" and "OK."
